Conventional boilers

This type of boiler takes up the most space and has the most parts to it. Unlike other types of boiler, you will need space to accommodate two water tanks and the boiler itself. There is also the issue of heat loss from the water being stored in the hot water tank, meaning it is not the most energy-efficient or space-saving solution. There are situations where conventional boilers are the ideal solution, such as older heating systems where the water pressure has to be taken into consideration and when you have a high demand for hot water to be readily available.

System boilers

These are considered a half-way house between a conventional and combi boiler. They are a great option when you require a high volume of hot water to be available but have limited space, making conventional boilers unsuitable. They do require a water tank, which makes them similar to the conventional system in many ways.

Combi boilers

These boilers use mains pressure water, which is heated on demand. This means there is no tank required, so they can be considered a space-saving design. The perfect option for smaller properties, they are very efficient at what they do. The downside is that they are not able to easily meet high demands for hot water; for example, if there is more than one bathroom, they will struggle to meet the demand.

Condensing boilers

All new boilers are required to be condensing by law. This means that their efficiency is high; in fact, it is over 90 per cent in most cases. This leads to lower bills and has a positive effect on their environmental credentials.
